Shirley Summers, Treasurer

District 5

Appointed 2019

Shirley is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and had a long and satisfying career working for 25 years for the County of San Luis Obispo Department of Social Services. Later, she went to work for the California Department of Corrections to work with mentally ill inmates and prepare them to re-enter the community.

Much of her life has been devoted to volunteer work. Shirley served as an Atascadero City Planning Commissioner during the time that Atascadero was developing its identity as a City. She is an active member of American Association of University Women (AAUW). Currently, she volunteers with the Red Cross for Disaster Mental Health and in their Reconnection program addressing the needs of returning Military Personnel and their families. Her other volunteer opportunities include serving on the County Commission on Aging, the Advisory Committee for the San Luis Obispo Legal Advocacy Foundation, Treasurer of the Friends of the Atascadero Library, and as the Volunteer Coordinator for Dancing with Our Stars. She also finds the time to delivers meals for Senior Nutrition. Shirley found the Commission on the Status of Women after receiving a nomination and later being chosen as one of the winners for the Women’s Wall of Fame for 2016.
