Andrea Chmelik is an activist, writer, speaker and communications professional. She holds a Master of Science degree in Biotechnology.
Andrea grew up in communist Czechoslovakia, a country that no longer exists. Bearing witness to changing regimes, and both the rise and crumbling of democracy, she is passionate about social justice and community engagement. In 2016, she co-founded Women's March San Luis Obispo, a women-led nonprofit organization that advocates for gender equity and women's rights. She has successfully built coalitions with local, state and national organizations, and with elected officials.
Andrea has previously served on the advisory board for the Central Coast Writers Conference, and is a member of the SLO Police and Community Together (PACT) advisory group. She has given speeches, led workshops, and been a panelist at numerous events, including Cal Poly Women in Business annual Women in Leadership conference, Change the Status Quo Social Justice conference, and Central Coast Writers Conference. As a communications specialist, she crafts messaging that empowers women, amplifies diverse voices and encourages positive and peaceful action.
She lives in Pismo Beach with her husband, two kids and two cats.
